2 new twitter apps
24/06/2009
Today sees the midgemap project go live. Midgemap is a project from APS in Edinburgh to allow members of the public contribute to the dataset they use to create the Scottish Midge Forecast. The Midge Forecast is viewed online by thousands of people across Scotland to help them get the most out of their time outdoors in Scotland, and the weekend forecast is to feature on STV from this week.
Midgemap is the first application of my Datatoy.net system which I launched in May. Datatoy allows the capture of loosely structured data from twitter streams. For example when you tweet that you ate a prawn sandwich for lunch, datatoy logs this in your database and creates a pie chart showing what you had for lunch in the past month.
Midgemap applies this principle specifically to peoples experience of Midge activity around Scotland. Simply by Tweeting "@midgemap Glencoe 4" anyone can contribute data to the project. If you are out and about this summer just follow @midgemap to keep up to date.
